The Dilemma And Breakthrough Of Everyday Aesthetics

This dissertation begins with the rise of everyday aesthetics,and it faces three difficulties:first,how to define the "everyday" in the everyday aesthetics?Second,even if the "everyday" as the aesthetic object is possible,what is the legitimacy of the aesthetic experience in the aesthetic field?Third,if the definition and features of everyday aesthetics get theoretical supports,we must question closely:what is the ultimate goal of everyday aesthetics?Following first,two and three chapters answered the three questions.The one chapter discriminated two easily confused terms:everyday aesthetics and the aestheticization of everyday life.We believe that they belong to different categories and have not explicit relationship between including and included.Everyday Aesthetics paying more attention to man himself and focusing on aesthetic experience research which take personal practice as object,besides,it also focusing on research of ethics which paying more attention to individual behavior habits and moral choices.But as to the aestheticization of everyday life,although the individual attention is involved,but from the overall study,it aimed to the aspect of Social criticism and culture criticism which based on group relations.Secondly,how to define the term of "daily life" on Everyday Aesthetics.Definition of "daily life" is mainly divided into two schools:restrictivists and expansionists.Restrictivists represented by Kevin Melchionne and Ossi Naukkarinen,they both advocate that the objects of Everyday Aesthetics are limited to ordinary life and daily life.The latter represented by Thomas Leddy who believe that objects of Everyday Aesthetics are not art or nature.The question of everyday aesthetics on ontology debate is replaced by empiricism question:how to change the habitual and common daily experience into aesthetic experience.The two chapter answered this question and think that this change have two directions:defamiliarization of familiar and body sense engaged in aesthetic appreciation.Defamiliarization of daily experience means to change boring and tasteless experience of daily life into surprised and fresh experience,getting aesthetic experience.The aesthetic potential of body sense is that to fully realize the capacity of getting the sense of beauty by using our body sense,like taste,smell and touch.An important feature of daily life experience is the full use of the unique aesthetic characteristics of body sense,so dig out the aesthetic ability of body sense will give everyday aesthetics unique features which different other schools of aesthetics.The third chapter answered a question left by the two chapter:whether paying more attention to t body sense will lead people to hedonism and consumerism,where is the ethical dimension of everyday aesthetics.In fact,relationship between aesthetics and ethics has been debated,everyday aesthetics set its value in two aspects:practicality and morality.In practice,drawing on Foucault’s aesthetics of existence and Schusterman’s body aesthetics,to create aesthetic life which have "personal style" through the practice of everyday life;in the moral aspect,the final point of everyday aesthetics is aesthetic education,committed to help and cultivate the public higher aesthetic ability and sensibility,to keep the freedom and integrity of human dignity on the spirit.
