English teaching in junior high school has a key and far-reaching influence on the development of students' English ability.Grammar teaching,as one of the most important and relatively difficult parts of junior high school English,has always been concerned by educators and junior high school English teachers.How to teach grammar more effectively has been troubling for the majority of English teachers.PACE model is a kind of integrated grammar teaching model,which not only focuses on the form and meaning of language,but also emphasizes learners' language communicative ability.It has four teaching steps,which are the Presentation(present meaningful language materials),Attention(pay attention to the language form),Co-construction,(co-construct the grammar rules)and Extension(expand language practice)respectively.Under the guidance of Krashen's input hypothesis,Schmidt's noticing hypothesis and Constructivism theory,the author mainly explores the following three research questions:1.What is the current situation of English grammar teaching in junior high school?2.What are the teaching effects of PACE model on English grammar teaching in junior high school?3.How can teachers apply PACE model to English grammar teaching more effectively?The 60 ninth-grade students from two parallel classes(Class 6 and Class 8)of No.13 Junior High School in Xining are selected as the research subjects.Before the teaching experiment,students from Class 6 and Class 8 are selected for the experiment through pre-test,and then they are surveyed through pre-questionnaire.During the teaching experiment,PACE model is applied in the experimental class(EC),while the control class(CC)adopts traditional grammar teaching methods.The students of the two classes do mid-test.After the teaching experiment,the students of two classes conduct post-test and post-questionnaire.The students of the experimental class(EC)are selected for an interview.The results indicate that the teaching effects of the application of PACE model to grammar teaching in junior high school are the enhancement of students' English total scores and grammar scores,the improvement of students' grammar learning methods and the promotion of students' participation in English grammar teaching class.Theresearch implies that teachers should stimulate students to understand the language meaning through meaningful and interesting language materials,and guide students to focus on language form through some ways of attention,and promote student's understanding of grammar rules through interactive cooperation,and consolidate students' learned grammar rules through communicative activities.In addition,the application of PACE model in grammar teaching should be closely related to the characteristics of students' cognitive styles and learning habits.
