In English teaching,grammar plays an important role in promoting the effective use of English by students.The grammar teaching model has always emphasized too much on the form of grammar and imparting knowledge,ignoring the specific context and purpose of grammar use and the ideographic function of grammar itself.The communicative method that has been popular for many years pays too much attention to the communicative nature of language,emphasizes the fluency of language expression,but ignores the accuracy of language.The PACE teaching model proposed by Adair-Hauck and Donato in1994 is a more appropriate teaching method.The purpose is to enable students to better master grammar knowledge and improve their ability to use grammar.Under the guidance of input hypothesis,attention hypothesis and constructivism theory,this paper attempts to explore the following questions through teaching experiments:(1)Can the application of PACE model in senior English grammar teaching improve students’ English grammar achievement?(2)Can the application of PACE Model in senior English grammar teaching change students’ attitude towards English grammar learning? In this study,two parallel classes(class 10: 54 students;class 11: 54 students)in the grade one of Qin’an No.2 Middle School in Tianshui City,Gansu Province,were selected as the research objects.The teaching experiment lasted for 2 months.The author randomly selected class 10 as the experimental class(EC),while class 11 is the control class(CC).Firstly,the pre-test was given to the two classes,so as to find out the participants’ mastery of grammar item-attributive clause.Then attributive clauses were used as grammar teaching content.During the experiment,the experimental class was taught using PACE Model,and the control class was taught using PPP model.After the experiment,researcher collected data by means of tests,questionnaires and interview.Finally,SPSS20.0 was used to analyze and compare the collected data.The results show that the application of PACE model in senior high school English grammar teaching can significantly improve students’ English grammar achievement,at the same time,can change students’ attitude towards English grammar learning.Therefore,the PACE teaching model not only compromises the contradiction between grammar learning and communicative competence training,realizes the integration of explicit grammar teaching and implicit grammar teaching,but also can improve students’ English grammar learning and students’ language application ability in practice.However,in the teaching practice of English grammar,teachers should pay attention to stimulating students’ interest in real and interestingmaterials,and help students understand and apply what they have learned in flexible and diverse ways.Moreover,students’ personality traits and learning styles should be considered to properly adjust the communicative activities.
