In recent years,to promote sports development and accelerate the construction of a world sports power,China has actively participated in many large-scale international sports events. In order to let coaches and athletes better and faster understand procedures and rules of the events,it is necessary to translate events guides into Chinese. The sports events guide belongs to the informative text of social science, and the translation belongs to the applied translation, the requirements of which are accurate translation, concise information, and current language. However,in the process of translation,it is a great challenge for translators to determine the language style, translate proper nouns accurately and deal with the syntactic structure. This report is based on the E-C translation project--2018 FISU World University Cheerleading Championship Guide, commissioned by the International Exchange Office of Guangxi University. The project includes general information of 2018 FISU World University Cheerleading Championship, cheerleading skills rules and judging criteria, and explanations of cheerleading terminologies. The purpose of the translation project is to allow the Guangxi University Cheerleaders who will participate in the tournament to quickly understand the rules for better preparation to achieve excellent results.Skopos Theory is taken as the main theoretical framework.Through studying on the information conveyed by words and sentences and the difference in their functions, the text is analyzed from lexical and syntactical perspectives. The content contains translation of cheerleading terminologies, abbreviations, passive sentences and long sentences.Through research,it is found that the translation of terminologies can be handled by the method of amplification and free translation. The abbreviations can be translated by ellipsis.Based on different functions, the passive sentences are mainly translated by adjusting their structure or using linear translation.According to different situations, the long sentences can be translated by linear translation, inversion, division or comprehensive method. The report aims to summarize the corresponding translation methods through specific case studies to provide reference for further translation of sports events guide and its research in the future.
