With the development of globalization, more and more tourists from the West arecoming to China, hoping to approach China’s unique culture in a closer way. Therapid growth of tourism industry in China boosts the need for guide interpreting tofacilitate tourism interactions. However, studies on tour guide interpreting are farfrom enough.The thesis focuses on the subjectivity of interpreter on tour guide interpreting inlight of the Skopos theory which is the core of German functionalist approach. Theauthor of the thesis attempts to probe into guide interpreter’s awareness of subjectivity,and find appropriate strategies to enhance the quality of guide interpreting. On thebasis of analysis of the guide interpreter’s subjectivity, especially on the three mainmanifestations of it, namely, visibility consciousness, empowerment consciousness,and consciousness of unconventional concepts on neutrality, the author of the thesisattempts to lay the foundation of the thesis, and give reasons for the importance andnecessity of the guide interpreter’s subjectivity.By using some real cases experienced by the author himself when he got a job asan English-speaking guide, the author also suggests some common strategies forguide interpreter from the perspective of interpreter’s subjectivity and tries to providesome food for the future study in this field.
