| The academic circles generally believe that Fan Zuyu is a historian and politicians,as agreed by everyone.However,Fan Zuyu's poetry is also very impressive,showing rich ideological content and various artistic features.By analyzing Fan Zuyu's life and travels as well as his 172 poems in detail,this paper aims to comprehensively present the ideological and artistic characteristics of his poems.This paper is divided into three parts,i.e.Fan Zuyu's life experience,the ideological and artistic characteristics of his poems.The first chapter expounds Fan Zuyu's historical background and life and thoughts and travels.Fan Zuyu(1041-1098)was active in the middle and late Northern Song Dynasty,where social environment and political issues were complicated.Born in a family of historiography,he has an outstanding academic ability.He participated in the compilation of Comprehensive Mirror for Aid in Government with Si Maguang and independently completed the historical masterpiece ——Reflection of Tang Dynasty.His early official career is very smooth,but in the later period he was troubled by partisanship and was expelled from the center of ruling and died in the desolate south.Most of Fan Zuyu's friends were eminent,such as Su Shi and his brother,Sima Guang and his son,Lu Gongzhu and his son,Wang Anshi and his brother,Cheng Yi and his brother.The second chapter analyzes the ideological content of Fan Zuyu's poetry.His poetry is mainly divided into 7 categories.The first category is 66 antiphon poems,Those poems reflect the life and relationship between poets and friends.Those poems are very rich in content,not only writing about his wide range of friends,but also showing a broad social landscape,Such as:the grand occasion of the Lantern Festival,the completion of the palace,the emperors went out to offer sacrifices to heaven,the inauguration of palace,the imperial examinations and the literati gathering,etc.His 19 farewell poems not focus on the sentimentality of farewell,but show a positive and optimistic attitude towards life.He has 19 landscape poem.Fan Zuyu is good at reflecting thoughts in the majestic green mountains and the rippling water,in order to expressing his feelings with the help of landscapes.Nine poems were compose by the poet when he was on the way to taking office,or when the poet was exiled.The poet is good at describing the customs and local scenery of other strange lands to express his homesickness and the sorrow of exile.There are 6 historical poems about historical figures and events.The main content of those poems is the reflection on the rise and fall of history and the events of historical figures.The fifth category is 12 poems chanting flowers,trees,birds,beasts.In those poems he often described the appearance and use the allusions to express his thoughts.The sixth category is elegy.Those 30 poems often reproduce the voice and smile of the two people in the past to express their deep friendship.There are a number of other poems,which are naturally beautiful and enjoyable.The third chapter discuss the artistic characteristics of Fan Zuyu's poems.First of all,his poetry inherits the romantic tradition since Qu Yuan and Chuang Tzu,and full of romantic imagination.Second,Fan Zuyu's poems are different from those of the Song Dynasty,and are characterized by vivid image and fine construction.Third,because he came from a family of historians,he had a high level of proficiency in the study of history and culture,therefore,his poems have the characteristics of many literary quotations.Fourth,under the influence of Tao Yuanming,Fan Zuyu try hard to choosing words and making sentences,hence characterized by the use of allusions and is full of literary grace.The sixth part analyzes the artistic origin of his poetry. |
