FAN Zu - Yu Thought Kam Study History

Fan Zuyu is a famous historian of the Northern Song Dynasty. His masterpiece Tang Jian, which based on the social reality, analyzed and summarized deeply and comprehensively the rise and fall of the historical experiences and lessons of former dynasty, by the narrative and comment about the boom and bust of Tang Dynasty in nearly three hundred year’s, and raised many useful advises. His aim is to avoid making the mistake of Tang Dynasty’destruction and to providing reference for solving the problem from internal to external in Northern Song Dynasty.This article, centering on Tang Jian and following the requirement of historical materialism, systematically discusses the background, content, characteristics and the status of Fan Zuyu’ thought of historical reference from the perspective of the historical education in ancient China and the traditional historical reference. First of all, this article, analyzing the background of the Fan Zuyu’ thought of historical reference, considers that Fan Zuyu’ thought of historical reference is a formation of social background, ideological background and Fan Zuyu’ personal experiences; Secondly, this article, centering on Tang Jian, detailedly arranges the contents of Fan Zuyu’ thought of historical reference and systematically summarizes the specific policy of running the country form five areas which includes the monarch thoughts, people-oriented thoughts, personnel principles, governing thoughts, and border government; Thirdly, this article, centering on the thought of historical reference in Tang Jian, summarizes the characteristics of Fan Zuyu’ thought of historical reference and analyzes the its inheritance and development of traditional historical reference, comparing with the thought of YinJian, QinJian and SuiJian, and explaining its important position in the system of Chinese traditional historical reference.It is significant to systematically discuss Fan Zuyu’ thought of historical reference for deeply understanding and inheriting the tradition of Chinese historical reference. Its abundant contents and valued experience also have important referenced value for contemporary China socialist construction.
