Lu Yu's Poetry Studies

Lu Dian(1042-1102), whose courtesy name was Nongshi, was also known as Taoshan. He was born in Yuezhou Shanyin(Today's Shaoxing state, Zhejiang Province). He was one of a distinctive man in literature in the late Northern Song Dynasty. His poem collection "Tao Shan" came down to us as 16 volumes version, which were compiled from the Yongle encyclopedia by Siku compilers. Quan Song Shi and Quan Song Wen included three volumes of Lu Dian's poetry,224 poems; ten volumes of Lu Dian's paper, 217 articles. His poems were rich in content, especially his seven-character regular verses. The majority of Lu Dian's articles were practical writing, which has extraordinary achievement in artistic characteristics. In addition, Lu Dian experienced each intense politics in the late Northern Song Dynasty, made friends widely and was a major figure in the Northern Song Dynasty culture family of Lu. He was a representative figure in literature men of the Northern Song Dynasty. However, Lu Dian and his literary works had not yet attracted more attention in the academic circles. For these reasons, the thesis attempts to have a good knowledge of Lu Dian's thoughts and his literature works on the basis of relevant historical materials, his experience, especially his poetry works. Through individual study, it can enrich the content of the study of literature in the Northern Song Dynasty.The full text is divided into the introduction and three chapters.The introduction part mainly introduce the purpose and significance of the research on Lu Dian's poetry, combs and analyzes the actuality and achievements of the research on Lu Dian's poetry, and the difficulties and innovations the author intends to break through in the process of writing this thesis.The first chapter discusses the life and friendship of Lu Dian. The chapter is divided into three sections: the first section explores the background origin of Shanyin Lushi, investigate how its Family literature of "worshiping Confucianism and classics, poetry and beauty", and Family culture of "with low straight filial piety" form and its significance to future generations; the second section, deals with Lu Dian's experience and career situation in different periods. In this part, Lu Dian's life is divided into three periods: the period of studying hard and seeking knowledge everywhere; the period of making sense suddenly and beginning to be an officer; the period of repeated relegation. In this way, we can take the initiative to understand the specific background of Lu Dian's writing and make a good realize of the connotation of his pomes and prose; The third section, explores Lu Dian's friends circle and how it has influence on Lu Dian's thought and creation.The second chapter describes Lu Dian's poems. At the beginning of the chapter, it describes the situation of poetry in the late Northern Song Dynasty and its influence on Lu Dian's poems creation. This chapter is divided into three sections: the first section analyzes how Lu Dian inherited the poetic tradition and how his poems make impact on poetry creation of the descendents; in the second section, according to the theme of poetry, Lu Dian's poetry is divided into five categories: Song Xing Liu Bie, Yong Wu Shu Huai, Ti Bi Ti Hua, Dao Wang Xing Ji. Its purpose is to explore the deep explanation of the pomes. The third section, mainly explores the artistic characteristics of poetry: narrative techniques of expression, its plain simple and bold vigorous coexistence of poetic style.The third chapter explores Lu Dian's prose. At the beginning of the chapter, it describes the situation of proems in the late Northern Song Dynasty and its influence on Lu Dian's proems creation. This chapter is divided into two sections. The frist part focus on the four types of style: epitaph prose, Ji Ti prose, Biao Qi Wen, letters. The second part mainly explore its content and art characteristics: sincere and natural expression of emotion, simple and restrained in style, the use of parallel prose in prose.Anyway, Lu Dian is a representative scholar in Song Dynasty. His life experience and literary creation has important significance in the literature research of the Song Dynasty. The content of Lu Dian's poetry provides us with important historical data to understand the society of Song Dynasty. The unique artistic style on the basis of the previous writings has a significant impact on the recent and later dynasty.
