| With the increasing demand for high-quality food, many foreign food brands have been introduced to the Chinese market. In order to integrate themselves into the local market, foreign companies are hiring more and more local employees knowing their culture and speaking their languages fluently.Under the circumstances, the author interned as an interpreter in a joint venture named Shandong Langtech Food Technology Company(SLF).As an interpreter for business, the author accompanied the Chinese CEO of SLF to Australia respectively in May and September,2016.The author also worked as an interpreter when the Australian clients came to China. In order to source good products and acquire exclusive authority of agencies from Australian clients, the author participated in and interpreted for more than forty-two meetings and banquets.Much importance is attached to the theory of the interpreter’s subjectivity during an interpreting activity, which focuses on the embodiment of the interpreter’s behavior in the interpreting process. Some examples are cited from the project to further elaborate on this theory. The experience in SLF leaves the author an unforgettable impression.During the interpretation, the author encountered some problems such as unfamiliar accent and unexpected pressure. Some solutions corresponding to these problems are provided such as practicing listening, building self-confidence and demonstrating professionalism. From the author’s point of view,an excellent business interpreter should be a generalist,s/he could handle any situations found in the interpreting process. |
