Multicultural communication and integration are the reality of modern society.As a major international language,English has been included into the curriculum of primary schools in China.Cultural awareness has also been clearly listed as one of the curriculum objectives of English curriculum standards for compulsory education.At present,influenced by the concept of score-oriented education,most teachers lay great stress on the teaching of linguistic knowledge in English classroom teaching,but neglect the importance of foreign language cultural,which greatly reduces the intrinsic value of foreign language education,at the same time,the role of cultural awareness and its status have not been well embodied for a long time.Starting with the basic concepts,this paper gives the definitions of culture and cultural awareness,then summarizes the elements of cultural awareness and characteristics of primary school students'cultural awareness,next expounds the requirements of the new curriculum standard for primary school students'cultural awareness,next makes a summary of the domestic and foreign researches on the cultivation of primary school students'cultural awareness,lastly expounds the contents of cultural awareness cultivation and the methods of cultural teaching.This paper expounds the necessity of cultivating students'cultural awareness in primary school English classroom from the aspects of enhancing cultural understanding,strengthening cultural reflection and promoting cultural inheritance,and clarifies the possibility of cultivating students'cultural awareness in primary school English classroom from the aspects of cultural connotation of English and cultural experience in the process of English teaching.This paper makes an investigation and analysis of the current situation of pupils1 cultural awareness in English learning.Starting with the introduction of the research design,this paper is based on the statistical analysis of interview records and questionnaire data,and it analyses the results of the questionnaire from four main dimensions,in order to understand the current situation of pupils' cultural awareness in English learning.The interview results are analyzed from the three aspects of the attitude of primary school students toward cultivate cultural awareness,the interest of primary school students in teaching cultural awareness,and the way of teachers to cultivate primary school students'cultural awareness and find some problems in the cultivation of primary school students'cultural awareness,and then draws conclusions.In view of the problems existing in the cultivation of pupils' cultural awareness,the corresponding strategies for cultivating pupils' cultural awareness are put forward.The strategies includes guiding pupils to carry out cultural comparison for deepening students' cultural experience;guiding students to enjoy thematic activities for broadening students' cultural understanding;supplementing cultural background knowledge and encouraging students to join personally.Meanwhile the corresponding case analyses are given in the strategic part.
