In the field of stylistics,inscriptions are an important genre.Generally speaking,the inscriptions in the stylistic sense refer to the words engraved on the objects,which take praise or warning as the basic stylistic features and four-character rhymes as the main stylistic form.The purpose of this paper is to conduct a special study on the inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty,to deeply explore the historical background of the prosperity of the inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty,to clarify the development track of the inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty by combining the works of important writers,to explore their cultural implications and to show their literary value.This paper is divided into the following parts:The first part is preface,which focuses on the limitation of the research scope of this paper.The second part introduces the research status of inscriptions in the Northern Song Dynasty,and explains the research method and research purpose of this paper.The first chapter mainly introduces the concept of inscriptions and related issues,and then discusses the development of inscriptions in the pre-Song period.Inscriptions are an ancient style with a long history in ancient China.They originated in the pre-Qin period and took shape in the Qin and Han Dynasties.It matured in the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties and underwent changes.It developed greatly in the Tang Dynasty and became more magnificent in the Northern Song Dynasty.The second chapter discusses the social and cultural background of the flourishing development of inscriptions in the Northern Song Dynasty,as well as the general situation and classification of inscriptions in the Northern Song Dynasty.Politically,the need to rebuild the ritual system,the development and perfection of the imperial examination system,the social fashion of collecting cultural relics,as well as the literature and thought of the Northern Song Dynasty profoundly influenced the development and evolution of the inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty.According to the criteria of subject matter,function and sentence pattern,this paper classifies the inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty in detail,trying to reflect the basic features and characteristics of the inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty clearly and multi-dimensionally.The third chapter describes the evolution of inscriptions in the Northern Song Dynasty.The development of inscriptions in the Northern Song Dynasty can be divided into two stages: in the early stage of the Northern Song Dynasty,the themes were mostly closely related to politics,represented by Tian Xi and Xia Song.In the later period of the Northern Song Dynasty,the subject matter of inscriptions was further expanded.Inscriptions on cultural themes represented by ink-stone inscriptions and inscriptions on living rooms represented by Zhai inscriptions,Tang inscriptions and Xuan inscriptions became the mainstream of inscriptions at this stage.Neo-confucianism's "nature" and Buddhism's "zen" inscriptions are also unique,affecting the profound direction of the Song Dynasty inscriptions.The inscriptions of Su Shi and Huang Tingjian were the peak of the development of inscriptions in the Northern Song Dynasty.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the artistic characteristics of inscriptions in the Northern Song Dynasty.In terms of artistic techniques,the inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty are characterized by prose and argumentation,and are good at metaphor.The parallel style inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty stress the use of allusions,parallel weight,rhyme and rhetoric,which are the harmonious unity of the literati's knowledge,aesthetic taste and moral ideal of the Northern Song Dynasty.The prose inscriptions of the Northern Song Dynasty form a fluent and smooth style with ups and downs,which is of high ideological and artistic value.
