‘The Canal Story”,a Chinese National Opera elaborately created by the National Grand Theatre, has been recognized by the audiences for its rich role setting, dramatic plot arrangement and huge design of light dancing, and has achieved great success. In this play, the aria is difficult and moderate, and the male and female protagonists are more balanced, which makes up for the lack of male protagonists in Chinese national operas. Therefore, this play is often used as an alternative to the teaching of opera performance by various art colleges and universities. The first part of this paper is the author's macroscopic and comprehensive views on the whole play of Canal Ballad. After grasping the background of story creation, the main contradictions and conflicts, and the plot outline, the brief description of the plot and the deletion and integration of the script are aimed at enabling it not to affect the development of the plot under the limited staffing, clothing, culture and Taoism,as well as the limited space conditions of the concert hall.Optimize the time and complete the performance. The second part is the author's treatment of lines expression and the design of stage scheduling in the rehearsal process.Combined with the script, the stage image of the role of "Qin Xiaosheng" is analyzed from the construction of inner vision to external expression. In the third part, the author combines his classical aria "Where Are You,Honglian".From the understanding of music connotation, the expression of songs, the body movements and action organization during singing, the author completes the image of "Qin Xiaosheng" to make it stand on the stage. The fourth part summarizes the difficulties that need to be overcome in rehearsal process, such as the insufficient number of actors, the influence of modern musical instruments beyond the prescribed environment and the solutions, and optimizes them for reference to ensure that no regrets are left in the performance process.
