Behavioral problems of adolescents have always been a hot topic in China and news about youth suicide,depression and school violence has emerged continually.In fact,behavioral problems are mental health problems in essence,which are closely related to their early family education.As a result,traditional “Chinese-style family education” that emphasizes parental authority seems to be unable to meet the needs of modern families.Scientific guidance and effective communication are keys to solving problems.In this translation report,the author has selected the fifth chapter of The Self-Driven Child issued by the US Viking Press as the text of translation practice.The book consists of 14 chapters with more than 120,000 words.Each chapter contains a large number of real cases and scientific research results.This book explains the impact of self-motivation on children from the perspective of brain science with some simple but profound words.It can help parents understand their children,establish a healthy parent-child relationship,and help children shape a more resilient brain under the guidance of science.The text selected in this translation project is an educational guide book for parents.It belongs to informative text.In general,the translation of this kind of texts usually has a clear purpose.In this case,except accuracy and fluency,the translator is also required to make some adjustments appropriately on the basis of the purpose of translation.This requirement is in line with the three rules of Vermeer’s Skopos theory: skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule.Therefore,the author,guided by Skopos theory,completes the translation practice.This report mainly analyzes the translation techniques used in the translation of words,sentences and discourses under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory.Translation at word level includes the use of Chinese terasyllabic words,the analysis of different translations of one word,and so on.Translation at sentence level includes translating by way of addition,the conversion of the passive voice,and adjustment of word order.Translation at discourse level includes the translation of subheadings and the adjustment of paragraphs.This report consists of four chapters: The first chapter is the description of the translation task,including the introduction of the source of the translation project,the stylistic analysis of the original text and the significance of the translation project.The second chapter is the description of the translation process.In this chapter,the author firstly introduces the preparatory work of the translation,including the preparation of translation tools,theories and plans.Then she summarizes the problems met with in the revision of the translation,including the mistakes and blind spots of her first translation,the understanding difficulties and errors of the original text,the rethinking of cultural phenomena,the modification of the style and rhetoric and the polishing of the final draft.The third chapter is case analysis.In this chapter,28 translation examples are listed and analyzed from three aspects: words,sentences and discourses.The author analyzes the modification process of each example,the translation techniques used,and the problems encountered during translation.The fourth chapter is a summary of the translation practice and reflections of the entire translation process.
