Steeped in History: the Art of Tea is a monograph on tea culture in many countries mainly edited by Beatrice Hohenegger and it was published by Fowler Cultural History Museum of the University of California,Los Angeles(UCLA)in 2009.Tea culture originates from China and spreads to the world,which is the unity of material culture and spiritual culture.The manifestation of tea culture varies from country to country.This book provides horizontal reference value for domestic readers to learn and understand tea culture of different countries.The translation of this book is of profound significance,both at the cultural and academic levels.This is an English-Chinese translation practice report,and the translator selected chapters 5 and 7 as the original text.This section discusses the origins of tea and the middle class,revolutionary activities related to tea,and the American Tea Party.During the translation process,the translator analyzed the text type according to the three text types proposed by Peter Newmark,the original text belongs to informative text.Then,under the guidance of Hans Vermeer’s Skopos theory,the translator focused on the key and difficult points in translation,such as tea related terms,the 18 th century middle class,passive sentences,and long difficult sentences.By searching for relevant papers and essays,clarifying background knowledge,and referring to previous materials,the translator aims to explore corresponding translation strategies and techniques,hoping to provide reference for the translation of similar texts...
