A Study Of Gao Family In Yunnan Province

"Family genealogy is the history of a family."Genealogy is regarded as the history for the country and genealogy is the most important basis for family members to pursue their ancestral history,just as history is for the state.Because the contents recorded in the genealogy are always closely related to social life,political events,economic activities,cultural and educational activities at that time,the genealogy is also a rare historical material and has important value.The Gao family was settled in Yunnan in Shuhan period.It flourished in Dali period,at the same time,it had been the Minister of Dali kingdom for generations,and it had great power and prestige.During the Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties,the Gao family was also an important force on which the central dynasty ruled Yunnan.Only after bureaucratization of native officers did the family quit the stage of history.Since the beginning of the Dali Kingdom,the Gao family had occupied an significant position,which is over the centries that can still maintain its political status and social prestige.The purpose of this paper is to study systematically and wholly the development history,ups and downs of such a family with special status in Yunnan history by digging deeply into the genealogy of the Gao family,so as to reflect the social and historical features of the area where the Gao family lived at that time.Firstly,this paper mainly introduces the general situation of Gao family in Shuhan period,Nanzhao Dali period and Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasties,analyses the compilation of Gao family genealogy,briefly describes the contents of the genealogy records,and summarizes the basic characteristics of Gao family's genealogy.Secondly,digging deeply into the genealogy of Gao family,discussing the changing process from weakness to strength and from prosperity to decline through genealogy,contacting and communicating with Bai nationality,Naxi nationality represented by Lijiang Mu family,Zuo family of Menghua and Yi nationality represented by other people,interacting and blending;analyzing the female characters in genealogy who moving from behind the scenes to front of the stage,and have important influence on family development.Finally,the influence of Gao family on local social development is explored from the genealogy.Gao family ruled many parts of Yunnan for a long time.It played an significant role in the local history of Yunnan,and had a far-reaching impact on the political,economic and cultural development of Yunnan society.
