Dali Appellation Research

In the world, China is perhaps the most exquisite country at appellation. The Chinese appellation words are too many. And they are very complicated and classified., which may rank at the top of the world’s appellation list. And this is the most distinctive features of Chinese appellations. The formation of this features have two reasons:first, China is one of the world’s earliest civilized countries. It has been known for both ancient civilizations and its etiquette. And there is a very rich ethical system in this country. Its core contents are seniority in its order, strict in hierarchy, propriety and compliance, the three cardinal guides and the five constant virtues as specified in the feudal ethical code and so on, which constitute a set of social and family code of ethics and ritual law. Second, from Zhou dynasty, China become a society of patriarchal clan system. Patriarchal takes family as its center. And it has strict order. The effects of the combination of these two reasons for appellations are:the system of family appellation is complex. The family relationship can be described in details. And the social appellations revolve almost every aspect of relation. So it’s very complicated. From investigating the appellations in Dali, we got the following conclusions:knowing what is the semantic connotation of appellation, analyzing the change of family appellation and the feature of social appellation, at the same time, doing some research for the cultural content of Dali appellation.The first chapter is the basis of this thesis wich is appellation review. The author provided materials for researching, stated the significance of appellations, then summarized predecessors’ research situation of appellation, and accounted the source of the materials used and the research methods in the process;The second chapter first carries on the Dali appellation lists which is the foundation of investigation and study. Then the author analysis the evolution of family appellation which includes three aspects:the age difference is simplified, explain the reason to change;The third chapter analyses the types of social appellation, and lists the Dali characteristic social appellation. At the same time, a kind of special social appellations are studied, which is the social use of kinship terms. That is the generalization of kinship terms for non-kinship members. Then the author explains the phenomenon. A problem of lack of social appellation is now the appellations and so on. This paper has put forward some proposals; and summarizes Dali appellation. Due to the development of traffic and media, and the popularization of Mandarin, dialect has been more and more influenced and assimilated. So the Dali appellation also has the characteristics of differences between urban and rural. It becomes smaller and convergence between urban and rural;The fourth chapter, from aspects of hierarchy, bureaucracy and the affinity concept, the author describes the Dali dialect culture, which reflects the influence of feudal caste system and patriarchal system of appellations.
