Study On The Shaping Of Supernatural Beings In Tang And Song Paintings

Ghosts and gods are the unavoidable elements in Chinese native culture.There are images of ghosts and gods in the earliest paintings in China.With the change of dynasties,the painting of ghosts and gods became an important part of Chinese ancient paintings and entered its peak stage in the Song Dynasty,in which the shaping of ghosts and gods in paintings was very mature.Selecting the image shaping of ghosts and gods to conduct the research aims at revealing what kind of thinking the ancient painters held in creating the paintings of ghosts and gods,how they shaped their images,whether their spiritual communication and expression methods have implications and benefits for the current Chinese painting creation by exploring related painting issues involved in the images of ghosts and gods in the paintings of the Tang and Song Dynasties.Although paintings of ghosts and gods have small number of audiences nowadays,relevant research has not been interrupted,among which some are relatively broad and concise with very few specific and detailed discussions about the shaping methods of ghosts and gods.The paper,focusing on the painting of ghosts and gods in the Tang and Song Dynasties,mainly uses the methods of work analysis and comparative argumentation to conduct detailed explanation and specific discussions of the shaping characteristics and methods in the representative paintings of ghosts and gods in the Tang and Song Dynasties and then explore the implications of the expression methods for the current Chinese paintings,which is also the research characteristics of the paper.The paper proceeds in three aspects.First of all,it traces back to the source of the paintings of ghosts and gods.Then,it has in-depth analysis and discussions of the related painting issues involved in the image shaping of ghosts and gods in representative paintings of ghosts and gods in the Tang and Song Dynasties from the composition,creation,lines,coloring and other painting methods.At last,it figures about the influence of the paintings of ghosts and gods in the Tang and Song Dynasties on the paintings in later years and the significance to the current Chinese paintings.It is concluded that various artistic methods and broad thinking in creating the paintings of ghosts and gods in the Tang and Song Dynasties,and their critical and metaphorical features all have a great significance and valuable conclusions on the contemporary Chinese paintings.
