A Report On The Translation Of Digital And Smart Cities (Chapter Six)

This report is based on the translation of Chapter 6 “Economics,globalisation and development” of the book Digital and Smart Cities.This book presents an overview of how technologies shape our cities.This book explores the topic from a range of different perspectives,both theoretical and historical,and analyses a large number of case studies of digital cities around the world.This report consists of 5 chapters.Chapter 1 is a brief introduction to the translation project’s background and significance.Chapter 2 is an analysis of the source text,including authors,background,main contents and linguistic features.Chapter 3 is concerned about the translation theory used by the translator.Chapter 4 analyses difficulties the translator encounters in the translation process and presents corresponding solutions.The difficulties of translation lie in the translation of organization names,acronym and long and difficult sentences.Accordingly,the translator applies translation methods and skills including literal translation,zero translation,addition,omission,combination,conversion and restructuring.The last chapter is a conclusion of the whole translation project,including lessons the translator learns from it as well as the points that need to be improved.
