There was a war between the group of Koxinga and the Qing dynasty in Chaozhou during the mid-17 th century.For most historians,this period of history has passed into silence.After reading amount of historical documents form two sides of the war and local chronicles,this dissertation restored the history of Ming-Qing Transition in Chaozhou.Moreover this research analyzed the affection of the war on local society.In the Chaozhou war,the both sides of the war made a huge effort for victory.As time went by,however,Koxinga had changed his strategic purpose and withdrawn from battlefield step by step during the Chaozhou war.In addition,Koxinga gained military advantage by controlling the sea.However,the advantage also made Koxinga lose the victory in Chaozhou war.Through the research of local society in the war,we can find the changes and complexity of local society at that time.Firstly neither bureaucrats nor civilians in Chaozhou,their choices had a complicated developing process.Secondly we can also find the reason of local force,such as Wu Liuqi,rise abruptly in the war by advocating the Qing Dynasty while Wu established the image of local society guardian among the rulers and local society via the rise of status.Thirdly this study also reveals the affection of the war toward urban landscape of Chaozhou and military affairs.
