On March 18th 2018,the author starts to provide a three-day business escort interpretation service for Mudanjiang Heyer Food Co.,Ltd.The whole process of the interpretation practice includes visiting the factory and gathering information in pre-preparation,the on-spot escort interpreting,and later summarizing and reflecting upon the practice.With the relevant interpreting knowledge learned,the author analyzes the difficulties and problems encountered in this interpretation task and summarizes the coping interpretation methods.This report is composed of five parts.The first part mainly introduces the background and characteristics of this interpreting task.The second part summarizes the interpreter’s early preparation,terminology preparation and emergency-coping strategies.The third part analyzes the difficulties and problems including bridging the cultural differences,interpreting the long and complex sentences concerning product information and production process,as well as interpreting the advertising slogans,which appear as challenges during the interpretation process.Difficulties in interpreting food culture differences are mainly divided into three types:differences in the choice of food stuff,differences in understanding the relationship between people and food,and the accuracy in interpreting food names.The difficulty in interpreting advertising slogans is that the target expressions should not only retain the characteristics of the advertising function,but also convey the emotional and cultural connotation contained in it.The fourth part is the case analyses in which the author uses the effective methods includingexplanation,restructuring and free translation to cope with the above problems.To bridge the food cultural differences,the author gives some further explanations about Chinese food culture concepts.In dealing with the difficulties of long and complex sentences,the author reorganizes the sentence order and arranges them in a clear logical way.In the interpretation of advertising slogans,the author mainly uses the method of free translation,aiming to convey the emotional and cultural connotation of the slogan to the full.The fifth part serves as a summary and reflection upon this practice.Through this task,the author understands more clearly about the ways of improving his own interpretation competence through the future practice.The author also hopes that this report will provide some valuable suggestions for the interpreters engaged in business interpretation in the future. |
