Research On The Characteristics Of Meaning In Life Among College Students And Its Association With Interpersonal Competence

In order to know about the status,characteristics and influencing mechanism of college students' experiencing meaning in life,the present study firstly surveyed 1476 freshmen and sophomores and gained the information of the four aspects of meaning in life(ie.,presence of meaning in life,search for meaning in life,crisis of meaning and source of meaning in life).Secondly the present study explored the relationship between interpersonal competence and meaning in life among college students and the roles of loneliness and grade in the above relation.There were the following findings:(1)Most of the college students(85.98%)didn't experience the crisis of meaning in life,only a few(14.02%)experienced the serious crisis of meaning.Especially 38(2.57%)students among them should be obtained psychologically care immediatelly;(2)About half of the surveyed(52.6%)experienced low level of presence of meaning in life.However,most of them(69.0%)experienced high level of search for meaning in life.Moreover,search for meaning in life was significantlly higher than presence of meaning in life;(3)In the sevent sources of meaning in life:self-acceptance,relationships,achievement,fair treatment,self-transcendence,intimacy,and religious beliefs,their significance of contribution to the surveyed's meaning in life declined in turn;(4)Loneliness served as a mediator in the association between interpersonal competence and meaning in life,and grade moderated the the mediation model.In sum,the findings are useful for the educators to improve students's sense of meaning in life by providing edcation orientations and empirical evidences.
