With rapid development of economy and the increasing comprehensive national strength,China has played an important role in the world and Chinese culture,which is long and profound,has been popular abroad.The emergence of Mandarin fever stimulates the development of Confucius Institute and Confucius classroom.More and more volunteers go abroad to undertake the task of teaching Chinese.And there have been tens of thousands of volunteers.New Zealand,which lies in Oceania,is the startup among all Confucius Institutes around the world.Since 2010 when Mandarin Language Assistants was put into effect,the number of volunteers,who are willing to be mandarin language assistants in New Zealand,has been increasing.Thus,the problems which are caused by cross-cultural adaptation are exposed.Researching,the survey producer and deep interviews are used in this research to learn about the cross-cultural adaptation of mandarin language assistants in New Zealand in 2018 and make an analysis of the factors that affect volunteers' cross-cultural adaptation.According to the findings,the change of mandarin language assistants'cross-cultural adaptation is in accord with 'U-Curve';individual differences affect mandarin language assistants' cross-cultural adaptation;influence factors may be different in different time periods;Among the lessons given in pre-job training,the one on cross-cult,ural communication skills is useful.Mandarin language assistants'socio-cultural adaptation,psychological adaptation and work adaptation are related to each other.The better socio-cultural adaptation is,the better work adaptation is and vice versa.In their tenure and midway through their one-year tenure as mandarin language assistants,the better their psychological adaptation is,the better their work adaptation is and vice versa.On the level of theory,data are collected from three perspectives:socio-cultural adaptation,psychological adaptation and working adaptation in order to learn about the problems on cross-cultural adaptation and give advice on assistants' training and management.On a practical level,results provide references not only for assistants on their choices but for Confucius Institute Headquarters on assistants'selecting.
