The translation material of this translation report is excerpted from Sanxingdui Civilization,written by Duan Yu and Zou Yiqing.Sanxingdui Civilization is divided into eleven chapters,which elaborate nine different aspects in history and culture of Sanxingdui.The translation material excerpts,Chapter Five to Chapter Nine,mainly introduce the agriculture,handicrafts,cities,transportation,commerce,character and legends of Sanxingdui Civilization.This translation report is based on the Chinese-English translation practice of about 15,000 words.The case study part is the focus of the whole thesis.What's more,there are explainations in the analysis of case study about why these translation methods or techniques should be used,and what the effects by using these methods or techniques could be achieved.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory,the thesis aims at translating the translation material into a language that is more in line with the idioms of translation by using translation methods of literal translation and free translation,as well as translation techniques,including amplification,omission and annotation.Translating Sanxingdui Civilization could help more foreign readers to learn about Chinese culture and stimulate their interests in the Chinese culture.Meanwhile,foreign scholars can have more accessible materials while studying Chinese culture,especially the culture and civilization of the ancient Shu and Sanxingdui.
