This is a report on the English translation of Sanxingdui Civilization(excerpts)under the guidance of parallel texts. The source text is chosen from Chapter One to Chapter Four of Sanxingdui Civilization written by Professor Duan Yu and Zou Yiqing, which mainly discusses formation and development of ancient Shu State, excavation of Sanxingdui site and introduction to theocracy. The translator selects Ancient Sichuan—Treasures from a Lost Civilization written by Professor Robert Bagley as the parallel text with following two reasons: firstly,it contains introduction to Sanxingdui civilization, extremely similar to the source text in content;secondly, the author comes from an English-speaking country, more proficient in English writing and application.Parallel texts are all referential materials related to the source text, which can help translators acquire professional knowledge, refer to expressions and imitate writing styles. In this report, the translator compares and analyzes the translation and the parallel text in terms of words and expressions, sentence structure and discourse coherence by case study, aiming to explore the translation practice under the guidance of parallel texts.Through the translation practice, the translator not only becomes interested in bronze wares of Sanxingdui site, but also deepens the knowledge of Sanxingdui civilization. At the same time, the translator also knows guiding significance of parallel texts in translation practice, providing certain experience and reference for further application of parallel texts.
