| This translation report centers on translating the excerpt of Chapter 1 in Ancient Sichuan:Treasures from a Lost Civilization. The book presents main discoveries at Sanxingdui as well as its relevant contexts of history, geography and custom, which is of archaeology and scholarly values. Among it, the translating part chosen by the author mainly introduces the features and craftsmanship of bronzes.Based on Nord’s function plus loyalty theory, this report tries to explore how the author applies it to solve the translation problems with case analysis, focusing on names of cultural relics, modal verbs, long sentences and passive voice. It starts with an introduction to the project’s background and significance. And the author explains the feasibility of function plus loyalty theory based on the features and functions of the source text. Then it comes to the analysis part:translating brief, translation strategies and specific translation techniques according to the analysis mode under the guidance of function plus loyalty theory. Finally, significance and limitation of function plus loyalty theory in tourist translation and experience and reflection from translation practice are concluded.With the help of case analysis guided by theory, comparison, deduction and induction, this report explores translation strategies and methods in tourist text from English to Chinese. Functions play a major role in tourist translation, which can be better realized with the guidance of function plus loyalty theory. And words or phrases conveying the source text author’s emotions or attitudes cannot be neglected to achieve functions of the source text according to function plus loyalty theory. The results can contribute to improving the translator’s ability of choosing translation strategies and methods flexibly, and provide a reference to tourist translation and its relevant researches. |
