This paper is a translation report on the first and second chapters of the British Water Act.As one of the earliest countries to start water legislation, the relevant laws in the UK are worth learning and drawing lessons from by many developing countries. Therefore, through the translation practice and work of the British Water Act,the author hoped that it can provide supplement and reference for the water industry management in China.Based on the text type and linguistic features of the legislative text, this paper specifically analyzes the translation methods of conditional sentences in the legislative text.Legislative text belongs to a type of legal text, which is a law and regulation officially promulgated by the state legislature and has general binding force on citizens.According to Reiss' text typology theory, the legislative text is divided into a normative legal document, which belongs to the informative text.Combined with the linguistic features of the legislative text, this report focuses on the analysis of the translation methods of conditional sentences in Water Act,and draws a conclusion that the application of text typology theory can effectively guide the translation practice of the legislative text.To some extent, this report can enhance readers' understanding of relevant foreign water laws, and at the same time, the author hopes that this report can play a role in improving the quality of Chinese translation of legislative texts.
