| Grammar is an indispensable part of learning English language knowledge,and the mastery of grammar knowledge is an important way to improve English language ability.Therefore,grammar teaching also plays an important role in English teaching of junior high school.The purpose of learning grammar is not to let students remember grammar rules,but to realize the combination of meaning and form through the practical application of language,to achieve the purpose that students using language to communicate.In the grammar teaching class,teachers sometimes neglect to develop students’ communicative ability of the language in the process of teaching grammar,and focus on the instillation of grammar rules.Under the theme-based approach of content-based instruction(CBI),the main task of the students is to learn the language,the main purpose is to improve the language level in the process of acquiring new information.It can link the subject materials students interested with the grammar knowledge they learned to cultivate students’ language skills applying the CBI’s theme-based approach to English grammar teaching in junior high school.This research uses the CBI’s theme-based approach,which aims to improve the students’ grammar achievement and enhance their interest in learning grammar.The research selected 62 students from two classes of Grade 9 of the Shizi High School in Tanchang County,Gansu Province,including 30 students of the experimental class and 32 students of the control class.This research conducted one questionnaire survey in the experimental class before the experiment to understand the students’ interest in grammar learning,and conducted a grammatical pre-test in two classes to understand the grammar achievement of the students.In the two-month teaching experiment,the experimental class uses the CBI’s theme-based approach,and the control class uses the PPP teaching mode for teaching.After the experiment,the grammar level test was conducted again in two classes to understand whether the students’ grammar achievement was improved,then the same questionnaire was conducted in the experimental class to investigate whether the theme-based approach can enhance the students’ interest in learning English grammar.The experiment results show that in the English grammar teaching of junior high school,the application of the CBI’s theme-based approach can improve the students’ grammar achievement and enhance the students’ interest in learning grammar. |
