| Grammar is an important part of language,without which it would be difficult to form a discourse.Therefore,grammar is an important part of language learning and teaching.However,traditional grammar teaching emphasizes grammar rules and the cultivation of students’ grammatical competence is always ignored,which would bore students,who would become uninterested in learning grammar,not to mention increasing students’ ability to use grammar.Therefore,this study takes the production-oriented approach(POA)as the theoretical basis and constructs a grammar teaching model aiming at cultivating students’ grammatical output ability.Experiment is used to verify this model’s effectiveness on students’ grammatical competence and grammar learning interest.This paper mainly studies the following three issues:1)How to construct POA-based grammar teaching model? 2)What effects does POAGI have on senior high school students’ grammatical competence? 3)What effects does POAGI have on senior high school students’ interest and attitude in grammar learning?In this study,96 students from two parallel classes in grade two of a senior high school were taken as experimental subjects for a one-month teaching experiment on noun clause.The control class adopts the teaching model based on traditional grammar-translation method,while the self-constructed teaching model based on POA(POAGI)is adopted in the experimental class.This model integrates the form,meaning,and use of grammar.The teaching process of POAGI consists of three stages: motivating,enabling,and assessing.The experimental results show that 1)The grammar level of the experimental class improves significantly more than that of the control class.2)The students’ interest in grammar learning in the experimental class is significantly provoked compared with that before the experiment.These results indicate that POAGI is suitable for English grammar teaching in senior high schools,because it can effectively improve students’ grammatical competence and have a positive impact on students’ interest in grammar learning.The contribution of this research is to show that POAGI can be effectively applied to grammar teaching practice.However,the following points need to be noted during implementation.1)Before the implementation of POAGI,teachers need to explain the teaching process and advantages of POAGI to students so as to guide students to be fully prepared for trying new grammar learning methods,thus improving the effect of grammar learning.2)In the stage of motivating,teachers should fully consider the differences of students’ levels and choose output materials with different communicative difficulties accordingly.3)In the stage of use-based enablement,teachers should provide more extensive and profound topics(such as history,philosophy and society)for students to discuss so as to raise students’ cultural awareness and promote their critical thinking ability.4)The evaluation,including instant evaluation and delayed evaluation,should be incorporated within each teaching stage so that teachers can adjust the teaching process as the teaching goes on while students can have an objective cognition of their own grammar learning. |
