| This is an E-C translation report on the translation of an excerpt of The Negotiation Challenge which is written by Remigiusz Smolinski and James B.Downs.They are international negotiation experts from Leipzig Graduate School of Management, and advising professors for the well-known international negotiation competition named“The Negotiation Challenge(TNC)”.This book explores four types of negotiations from the competition and some excellent negotiation strategies to be adopted for each negotiation.Negotiation is a crucial part in cross-cultural communication.According to Peter Newmark’s classification of text types,The Negotiation Challenge is a textbook of informative text for learning negotiation knowledge.Characterized by large amount of information and strong practicability, informative text can help people deepen their understanding of a certain field. It also contains a large number of professional terms and long and difficult sentences, which is a great challenge for translators. Therefore, certain theories and strategies are needed to guide translation. In Newmark’s opinion, the study of translation should not be separated from the text and on the basis of analyzing and summarizing different translation theories,he proposes that communicative translation should be adopted in the translation of informative text.Based on communicative translation theory, this paper makes a concrete analysis of translation examples from the lexical and syntactic levels, summarizes some translation methods suitable for information texts, such as literal translation plus annotation, addition, conversion of part of speech, division, conversion of passive voice to active voice, thus demonstrating the feasibility of communicative translation theory for informative texts. The author hopes that this report can provide some inspiration for peers in similar translation studies. |
