"Passive Sentence" is an important sentence pattern in modern Chinese, which has its particularity in using and is a difficulty for overseas students when learning Chinese. As an overseas student from Egypt,I found the students with Arabic background meet many problems when they are learning "passive sentence".The research shows that observing and analyzing a kind development process of sentence pattern posses important meaning in founding out rule of the second language, therefore it is necessary that researching passive sentence of Chinese learner. At the present, there are few articles on studying passive sentence learning of students with Arabic background, and there are not many special textbooks for learners with Arabic background. The thesis also proceeds compare and analysis between Chinese and Arabic to describe differences between these two languages. The thesis researches studying difficulties and rules according to passive sentence's studying state of Chinese Department students in Egypt Ain Shams University, and provides references of passive sentence's learning and textbooks edition for Arabic students by inspecting and analyzing related Chinese textbooks. In addition,we also compared development state of different stages in Chinese"passive sentence" learning among Arabic background students, and explained the factors that effects "passive sentence" learning of Arabic students. The thesis adopts two researching methods, one is questionnaire survey, another is interview. The questionnaire survey is consisted of three parts(Selection,Judgment and Telling story by Seeing Pictures),we drew conclusions below according to analyzing result of questionnaire survey and interviews:(1)The sophomores mastered simple "passive sentence" well but badly in complex and others "passive sentence".There are mainly two reasons of that:One is effect of mother language, another is the learner has concept of simple "passive sentence" in consciousness but they have no idea to use others "passive sentences".The mistakes of most sophomores are in two sentences patterns, one is passive sentence with "give" and "call",the error rate of the sophomore learners up to 80%,they always use "let" as verb because they are familiar with this word. The second sentence pattern is negative sentence of passive sentence with "no",the error rate is also high to 80%.(2)The juniors had some progress in mastering the "passive sentence",but they did not reach our expected progress. There are two types of mistakes that the juniors always make. The first is passive sentences that use "call","let",and "give",its error rate is between 70%and 90%.The error rate shows the third-grade students not only haven't mastered "passive sentence" well, but also influenced by Arabic--their mother language.Because the juniors use "call","let","give" as verb instead of preposition of "passive sentence".The second sentence is negation of passive sentence with "no",its error rate is 45%.(3)There is no big difference to express "passive sentence" freely in these two grades.Of course the juniors third-grade learner has increased in vocabulary quantity. However our statistics shows it is not Gaussian distribution and there is not prominent difference between the sophomores and junior.(4)There are same mistakes between two grades, which are the verbs with"passive sentence" are followed by a complement,"misuse of adverbial","unsigned passive sentence",and so on.(5)In addition to the questionnaires survey,we also proceeded interviews with some students in Egypt's sophomores and juniors.According to interviews,we learned about the situation of Egyptian students' "passive sentence" learning and some problems in textbooks and teaching.Based on it,the thesis summarizes and analyzes the development of "passive sentence" learning, summarizes the effects of language transfer, cognition and teaching, and mentions corresponding teaching suggestions.
