Chinese passive “Bei” sentence is considered as a difficult grammar pattern in modern Chinese language.It is observed that even Chinese native learners are also finding it difficult to understand some of the grammar patterns related to Bei sentence.Therefore,lots of researchers have done various researches related to this topic inside China.Further there are lots of studies have been carried out on “Bei” sentence targeting foreign students who are studying in Europe and Southeast Asian countries.But there are few studies have been carried out on the use of “Bei”sentences of Chinese language by learners in South Asia.Further it is noted that no studies have been done regarding the adoption of Chinese “Bei” pattern by Sri Lankan Chinese language learners.Hence,it is required to do an in-depth study related to Sri Lankan students’ adoption of Chinese “Bei”sentence.This study would be help Sri Lankan Chinese language learners to get a thorough knowledge about “Bei”sentence and avoid having basic errors while using Chinese passive tense.Sri Lankan’s mother tongue is called Sinhala and there is a very significant difference between Sinhala passive tense and Chinese “Bei” sentence.In order to make the learners understand the difference between Chinese “Bei” sentence and Sinhala passive sentence,the researcher has compared Chinese “Bei” sentence and Sinhala passive tense in chapter two.The third chapter consist a detailed study of Sri Lankan students’ adoption of Chinese “Bei” sentence,and also semantic and structural errors happened in Chinese“Bei” sentence.Questionnaires were distributed to gather data and sample population was divided into 2 sections.One section of the sample represents 55 undergraduate students who study Chinese language at Kelaniya University and Sabaragamuwa University in Sri Lanka and other section of the sample represent 55 Sri Lankan Chinese learners who live in China.The fourth chapter of this study explains the reasons related to Sri Lankan Chinese learners’ basic errors in “Bei” sentence.Further researcher suggests effective teaching methods that can be used in teaching “Bei” sentence to Sri Lankan Learners. |
