The Artistic Research On Fujian Flora And Fauna Painting In The Middle Of 20th Century

With painting art blossoming in west Fujian in late Qing dynasty,many artists like Shang Guanzhou,Huang Shen,Hua Yan had emerged during that period.In addition to inheriting traditional Chinese painting skills,they absorbed elegant tastes of poets as well as folk aesthetics to develop a refined and popular painting style,which has made far-reaching influence at that time and even at the 20th century.In the mid-20th century,with the migration of geographical culture of west Fujian,a group of artists in Shanghang represented by Li Shaoqi,Luo Xiaofan,Qiu Tian,Song Shengyu emerged.They mainly focused on flora and fauna paintings with west Fujian traditional painting style,which was inherited from Ming and Qing dynasty.This particular style mixed the characteristics from South and East China painting faction and Shanghai painting faction to form a unique painting style,which has been influencing the development of contemporary and modern painting of Fujian province.This article researches on west Fujian painting art through four Shanghang artists,Li Shaoqi,Luo Xiaofan,Qiu Tian and Song Shengyu.It decodes the thesis from multiple dimensions by analyzing their brushstroke techniques and the evolution of painting style and exploring political and cultural significance behind the subjects,composition and formation of the paintings.In addition,the article has concluded the similarity of these artists and analyzed their internal artistic characteristics and influences.This article discusses the topic from three aspects based on present research findings:1.to select the typical artists of flora and fauna paintings in the mid-20th century to study the works of their whole lives;to analyze the artistic style and characteristic of paintings;to find the general character among the specific ones and then to explore the characteristics of flora and fauna paintings in west Fujian;2.to analyze social factors including politics and geographical culture in west Fujian comprehensively,and to extend the study range to develop a research on the thesis from multilevel;3.to combine the artistic phenomenon of Fujian flora and fauna paintings in the middle of 20th century with art history,and to objectively evaluate the historical value of the Fujian flora and fauna painting in the artistic historical perspective.
