Su Jiong,famous for the 20 volumes of Lingranzhai Studio Collection,was a poet in late Southern Song Dynasty.Among all his over 850 poems,the distinctive part is 200 pieces of The Collection of Composition in Jinling,composed when he was in position as a commanding officer in Jinling,which showed the poet's insight and inner thought.This essay mainly take The Collection of Composition in Jinling as the object of study,analyzing the theme in details and looking into the images,artistic expressions as well as the styles.The essay consists of three parts,namely introduction,body and conclusion.As for introduction,the author elaborates the background and necessity of deciding on the subject,followed by Su Jiong's poems together with the current situation and developing tendency of The Collection of Composition in Jinling research.Next come the novel point and studying significance of this essay.The main body shows the majority of the essay,composed of three chapters.Chapter one,divided into three sections,is about the poem classification.The first section writes poems about current politics,regarding Su Jiong's concern about people livelihood,such as related salt policy as well as wars,and patriotic state of mind featuring the urge to contribute to the country and the desire for reunion with his families,when Su Jiong held position of commanding officer in Jiankang.Made up of three parts,the second section is about poems on unique sightseeing during his official career in Jinling.Part one is a description of mountains in Jinling,on account of the mountainous surroundings and special characteristics there.Part two concentrates on landscapes and Su Jiong's personal imagination and experience when wandering through.Part three is about the introduction and impression of temples,pavilions,terraces and pagodas on Su Jiong.Section three extrudes his poems on history and the past,which take up relatively much percentage among the existing poems and stand out as the most characteristic type.Similarly parted into three parts.Part one quotes some anecdotes from A New Account Of Tales of the World in Su Jiong's poems,adding to the enjoyment and historical importance of his poems.Part two focuses on Su Jiong's eager for Li Bai's wild and undisciplined attitude.Part three shows Su Jiong's eulogy for elites who assisted governing and saved the nation,for instance,Lu You,Wang Anshi and the four reviving senior general with Yue Fei taking the lead.The second chapter stands out with Su Jiong's distinctive poetic imagery.It includes two sections,the first one of which shows his imagery in years from the perspective of the expression of depression and the reflection of being peaceful inside while the second of which depicts plum blossom,the symbol of being noble,unsullied,and in harmony with the world.In the third chapter,the author devotes to the styles,characteristics and methods of Su Jiong's writing.Put into three sections,the first describes the plain style shown in his poems,the second explains the reason why Su Jiong developed his characteristic(inheriting and improving the genre of the great poet,Su Song and influenced by Tao Yuanming's genre),and the third section is concerning the writing methods,in the aspect of phrasing and figure of speech.Words of colors were usually applied in his poems.He preferred cool tones,such as “cyan”,“green” and “white”.With reference to the figure of speech,he tried anadiplosis and tautology with skills.A summary of the whole essay is in the conclusion part,stating the value of The Collection of Composition in Jinling and that of Su Jiong's poems from the whole picture.What's more,the author gives a description of the distinctions of Su Jiong's poems and looks forward to the research outlook of his poems in future.
