Su Jiong , with a rich creation in the later South-Song Dynasty, has a poetry anthologycalled lingranzhaiji Containing more than 850 poems. His poetry is abundant in content,showing his life experiences of travelling, making friends, reading books, homebounding, andrecords the poet’s life journey. His poetry has its own style, such as significantly affected bythe Zen ideas, adhere to the plain style of poetry, pay attention to select the typical image toexpress his feelings, ect. This essay takes Su Jiong’s poetry as the main research object, andstrive to a comprehensive and objective analyze of it.This paper is mainly made up of three parts: the introduction, the text and the conclusion.The introduction part mainly elaborates the writing basis of this article. First introduce theresearch value of Su Jiong poetry and then shows the current academic research on the statusof Su Jiong poetry, then explain the lack of Su Jiong poetry study, and conclude the value of thisstudy.The text is the main part of this paper, composed of five chapters. The firstchapter introduces the comprehensive course of Su Jiong’s life. First, Su’s living environmentwas examined. Second, comparison of Su Jiong and other Jianghu Poets in poetry style andliving conditions is showed. Third, the important influence on Su’s poetry writing of two places,Jiangjin and Jinling is analysed from the perspective of the regional culture. Forth, thecommunication between Su Jiong and other poets at that time is introduced.The second chapter introduces the rich ideological content in Su’s poetry. His poetry is notonly quantity, but also rich in content. It fully demonstrates his thought of the life, showing hisinner feelings, interests, attitudes to life and so on. Specifically, his poetry can be divided intofour parts: the love to the natrual beauty, the treasure of the true feelings, his favorite on reading,his insistence on leisure life.The third chapter analyzes Zen’s influence on Su’s poetry. As one of the three pillars ofChinese Thought with Confucianism and Taoism, Zen has a negligible impact on the history ofChinese poetry. Under the influence of Zen, Su’s poetry shows three characteristics: first, thereare a lot of Zen-related imagery in his poetry, second, the mentality of the poet in the poetry is significantly affected by Zen thought, third, there are obvious Zen concepts in his SceneryPoems.The forth chapter analyzes the plain literary style of Su’s poetry. After the introduction ofthe dull literary style, this chapter focuses on analyzing the performance and the causes ofthis literary style. In his poetry, Su Jiong discribe the dull mood with plain language. Theformation of this literary style is not only because of that age, but also because of the poet’stemperament.The fifth chapter research the use of imagery in Su’s poetry. Image is the basic elementsof literature,which carrys the poet’s feelings and ideas. In Su’s poetry, there are threetypical images: old images, wine images, images of plum, which perform the poet’s subjectiveideas.The conclusion discusses the other performance of Su’s poetry, in order to demonstrate theart achievement of Su’s poetry fully.
