One should he concerned about his people when he is in the court, while heshould be concerned about his monarch when he is in the commonalty. This is notonly Fan Zhongyan's ambition, but also it's the commonlong-cherished wish ofanyone who has been educated under Confusianism tradition. If one can reacheminence, of course he will relieve all the world. But if not, just like Liu Guo,should hetake helping the world as his tuty or should he go and live in seclusion?Liu Guo(1154-1206),whose another names were Gai Zhi and LongzhouTaoist, was born in Taihe,Jizhou(nowTaihe County inJiangxi Province). He had neversecured an official position in his life but he left us lots of works. He wrote morethan 300 poems and 80 verses and a volume of other kind of works. His poems arebold and unconstrained, full of literary talent, they conveys to us a mixture of author'spatriotic feeling and wandering and lonely mood. This unique style has someinfluence for the development of literature of the South Song Dynasty, especially forthe development of Jiangxi literature. The forming of such style is due to the specificsocial culture atmosphere of the South Song as well as his individual thought andexperience. This article tries to probe into the author's complicated and contradictory, distressed and restrained inner world by studying his poems.
