A Report On The C-E Translation Of Imperial Mausoleums In China (Chapter Four)

This is a report on a Chinese-English translation practice.The source text is selected from Imperial mausoleums in China,which was published in 2010 and written by Huang Jinglue and Ye Xueming.Imperial mausoleums in China is a historical text and the translator chooses chapter four as the source text,which has totally about 12,880 characters.The source text chosen mainly introduces the imperial mausoleums of the Zhou Dynasty,including the location,layout and funeral objects of the imperial mausoleums in this period.In this translation report,the translator analyzes the difficulties encountered during the translation process from the lexical,syntactic and discourse perspectives and then illustrates the coping methods.For example,the translator adopts the method of correspondence to deal with the difficulty in translating ancient official titles in the source text and uses the methods of explanation and annotated transliteration to solve the problem of the lexical gap.In addition,the translator adopts the method of syntactic integration to translate the run-on sentences and uses amplification to present more clear spatial sequence in the discourse structure.The source text in plain writing and concise language introduces the imperial mausoleums of the Zhou Dynasty.The translator hopes that the translation not only enables the target language readers to understand the funeral culture of China,but also has the reference value for studying imperial mausoleums of this period.
