This is a report of an English-Chinese translation project with the source text from Theory and Philosophy in Education Research — Methodological Dialogues,a new academic work in the field of education. The book is co-authored by John Quay,Jennifer Bleazby,Steven A.Stolz,Maurizio Toscano and R.Scott Webster. It aims to provide some inspiration and methodological references for education researchers. No Chinese version of Theory and Philosophy in Education Research — Methodological Dialogues has been published so far.The translator(the author of this report)translates Chapter One and Two of the book to produce a Chinese version.Chapter One and Two of the source text elaborate the place and value of theory and philosophy in education research and its application methods. This report focuses on four major difficulties the translator encounters during the translating process and illuminates four methods adopted to cope with the difficulties with cases analysis. For academic terms translation, the translator adopts choice of word meanings,as the meaning of common polysemous words used in technical field is hard to figure out.For extensively used nominalized nouns mainly derived from verbs, conversion is employed. For complex sentences, the translator applies sentence structure reinvention method to the process. For widely used passive sentences, the translator uses shifts of voices to transform them into active sentences to create idiomatic Chinese version. In this report, the translator analyzes the language features of the source text as an academic work and the differences between English and Chinese languages leading to the difficulties the translator encounters, and introduces four translation methods solving the difficulties with cases study. The completion of the report is expected to accumulate experience for the translator's future translation of the same type.
