As a global agricultural country with great attention,agriculture plays an extremely important role in China's economic and social development.At present,it is in a critical period of transition from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture.In the process of building modern agriculture,the agriculture-related professionals with diplomatic skills are an important driving force for promoting agriculture to go abroad,integrate with the international community,and integrate into the world economy.However,the comprehensive talents with both agricultural expertise and diplomatic skills in the agriculture-related profession are extremely scarce and have attracted the attention of the state.The state has also issued a series of documents for this purpose,which has put forward new requirements for the colleges to strengthen agricultural science and technology training and cultivate new agricultural talents.The important point is that the cultivation of compound-related talents in agriculture-related professions needs to be strengthened in relation to agricultural expertise.With the development of professional English application skills,the general English teaching can no longer meet the professional English needs of the agronomy students in the future workplace.However,the English teaching of agricultural related majors in various higher vocational colleges in China generally has unreasonable teaching content,the teaching content is not in line with the actual needs,and the teaching of vocational English lacks its characteristics;the autonomy of students learning English in industry is not strong,the attention to English is not enough,and there is no scientific guidance for cultivating self-learning ability.The professional ability of English teachers in the industry is not strong.:teachers mainly depends on single-type public English teachers.There are a few compound teachers who have the ability to teach vocational English and have relevant agronomic expertise.Only paying attention to the ability of speaking and writing,the teaching and evaluation system of ignoring the practice of listening and speaking training is not scientific,the teaching evaluation method is similar to public English teaching,and lacks the characteristics of vocational English and so on.Therefore,vocational English teaching in agriculture-related professional colleges in various higher vocational colleges faces new challenges--how to combine public English and professional English to cultivate a compound talent in order to meets the needs of modern agriculture.Based on the theory of demand analysis and the theory of construction,this study compares and draws on the theories and practical experience of vocational English teaching in foreign industries,and selects some students in agriculture-related majors and vocational English teachers of Yangling Vocational and Technical College as the targets of the questionnaire and interview survey.On the basis of the combination of theory and teaching practice,the author conducted the research on the main aspects such as the curriculum setting,the initiative of students,teachers' ability,testing methods and teaching methods,and fully found out the teaching circumstances of vocational English in agriculture-related majors in higher vocational colleges.The study analyzes the main problems in vocational English teaching in agriculture-related professional industries.At the same time,it analyzes the main causes of problems and proposes effective reform measures.The research of this paper has certain practical guiding significance for the teaching reform of vocational English in the agricultural professions of similar higher vocational colleges in China.It also caters to the trend of globalization of the market economy of the combination of industrial English teaching with higher vocational public English teaching,and also the cultivation of skilled and professional people.
