A Report On The Translation Of Chapter Three Of Legal Translation Explained

The book Legal Translation Explained written by Enrique Alcaraz Varó and Brian Hughes who are the professors of The University of Alicante,is typically academic.From the perspective of linguistics,law and translation,it gives us a comprehensive interpretation of legal English.As a teaching material of theoretical research and legal translation,the book is so concise and wide-ranging but it is a pity that there is no Chinese version available.Chapter Three of the book,titled “Some Pointers to the English Legal System”,provides an entire framework of the English legal system and comprehensive introduction of translation of legal terms,which is of significant value to beginners of law and helps those beginners understand and master the complex English legal system in a fast manner.This report is divided into four parts: Part One is task description,including background of the source text,task background,text type and features of the source text as well as objectives and significance.Part Two is description of the whole translation process,which sets forth the pre-translation preparation,in-translation preparation and after-translation preparation.In the light of “four information bridges model” proposed by Pro.Zhao Junfeng,Part Three analyzes the translation from three level: lexical,syntactic and rhetorical levels and illustrates the challenges and translation strategies during the translation process.Part Four is conclusion,including findings,limitations and suggestions for further translation practice.The author hopes that the translation of this book can help improve translation skills,deepen the understanding of Anglo-American law system,grasp the use of translation tools and strength teamwork spirit.Moreover,the translation is hoped to serve as a guidance for those who are interested in English legal system.
