As a special type of writing,legal English has developed its distinctive language style in vocabulary,syntax and grammar in the course of the development of legislation and justice.In terms of the syntax,long sentences and sentences involving the use of passive voice are usually seen in legal English texts.This paper will focus on an in-depth analysis of syntactic structures taken from Bill C-11(An Act to Amend the Copyright Act of Canada),which will enable the author to explore the problems the author encountered in the translation,reflect on translation methods and strategies by analyzing features of syntactic structures in Bill C-11.The approaches to tackling the problems in translation consist of literature reviewand case study.The limitations as well as the inadequacy on the part of the translator are addressed in the conclusion.All of this done,the paper reiterates thetranslation skills in general,the relationship between theory and practice,theweaknesseson the part of the author,as well as some expectation of the author's future as a translator.
