As a visual tool,mind map uses keywords,pictures and colors to attract students' attention and cultivate students' divergent thinking.In order to improve the quality of teaching and promote the development of students,the author applies the mind map to English reading teaching in senior high school.The author guides students to use mind maps in English reading in the process of the re-reading,while-reading and postreading,which is to explore effective ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of English reading teaching.The author mainly focuses on two questions in the research:(1)what effects does the application of mind maps to English reading teaching in senior high school have on students' reading interest?(2)What effects does the application of mind maps to English reading teaching in senior high school have on students' reading ability?The author firstly searched for some related information to know the theoretical basis of mind mapping,and then used questionnaires,interviews and tests to collect data about the current situation of students' reading in senior high school and the reasons behind the data.Meanwhile,the author tried to explore the effects of mind map in English reading teaching in senior high school on the basis of experimental research,teaching cases and interviews.The author selected two parallel classes,in which Class 1 was the experimental class and Class 2 was the controlclass.The author used the mind map to teach English reading in the experimental class,but didn't use the mind map to teach in the control class.After the experiment,the collected data was analyzed.The findings show that the students' reading ability has improved a lot in the experimental class,and students' reading ability has also improved in the control class,but the effect of reading teaching in the control class is not as obvious as that in the experimental class.According to this research,the mind map assists reading teaching and it has good effects on arousing students' interest in English reading and improving students' reading ability.
