With the depletion of energy resources, people have paid more attention to the development of unconventional energy, such as shale oil and shale gas.The report is written based on the translation of chapter two in Unconventional Oil and Shale Gas,which mainly provides an assessment of current and emerging technologies and practices concerning water procurement and the treatment of produced fluids related to shale energy development in the United States.Since technologies concerning shale energy development in America are more advanced than those in China, the translation of this book can provide some references and assistance for domestic workers in this field. The report introduces, analyzes and summarizes the translation practice. And the report mainly consists of four parts, including task description, process description, case analysis and conclusion.Firstly,an introduction is made of the choice of the source text, translation objectives and significance.Secondly,a summary concerning preparations before translation, the study of Functional Equivalence Theory and the formation and modification of the translation is made.Thirdly, analysis of words, sentences and discourse is made under the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, aiming at elaborating ways to solve problems encountered during translation. In the end,a conclusion including objectives achieved, solutions to problems, limitations and reflections is made to improve the quality of the translation further.
