A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of The Procurement Specification Of Gypsum Dewatering System

As is well known,the rapid global development of science and technology has seen an increasing amount of cooperation made in the construction of coal-fired power plants between China and other countries.As an essential part of commercial transactions,bidding plays an important role in securing different parties’ rights and obligations.It is believed that the successful cooperation depends on translation quality of procurement specifications to some extent.And the content of procurement specifications for vacuum belt filters in this report includes the bidding documents.The texts selected for this translation practice consist of the procurement specification for the gypsum dewatering system in the power plant’s bidding documents.In the first place,there come the source of the translation project,the background and significance of the research as well as the current research status of the subject at home and abroad.After that,in the translating process,the translation is completed based on skopos theory as well as series of translation skills and strategies of procurement specifications.Next,the typical lexical,syntactic and textual features of the procurement specifications are presented with a certain number of examples.Finally,a conclusion is made that skopos theory is suitable in translating procurement specification because skopos theory focuses on accurate equivalence in meaning between the source text and the target one,which is strictly required by procurement specifications.what’s worth mentioning is that accuracy and readability of the translation can be improved in this report although the author has spared no efforts to work on it.
