Interpreting is a communicative act that bridges the speaker and the addressee.During the complicated process of interpreting, there are several phases and each phase is of vital importance in understanding the speaker and enabling the target audience to catch what the speaker was trying to covey. The problems in the interpreting task are categorized into three types: word recognition obstacles, obstacles in comprehension, and delivery obstacles. And the interpreter comes up with solutions to the different problems in each phase under the guidance of the relevance theory. This report is based on the simulative interpreting task of a public lecture of the Stanford University on business negotiation. With the help of the relevance theory, the interpreter gives an analysis of the problems encountered in the interpreting process and makes a reflection on the interpreting in order to enhance the interpreting skills. This report is composed of four parts, respectively task description, process description, case analysis and conclusion.Task description is about the introduction to the topic source and audience analysis while process description includes preparation before interpreting.Categorized problems as well as corresponding solutions are elaborated in the part of case analysis before the main ideas are summarized in the part of conclusion.
