To survive increased global competition, public cultural diplomacy is the key.President Xi Jinping calls for a raise in soft power and tell the stories of China to the world in a proper way.The Forbidden City,Gugong in Chinese and now the Palace Museum,is the crystallization of the 5000-year history and wondrous vast land, and definitely a representative of Chinese culture, also an indispensable part of world cultural heritage. For the spread of the Palace culture, the Museum has launched a cultural lecture program—The Palace Rostrum, humorously informative and appealing to the public. It is believed that if the program is interpreted in good English the lecture series will arouse foreigners'wide interest and promote the development of national public cultural diplomacy. The author selected the 100th episode of The Palace Rostrum as the simulated consecutive interpreting material. This interpreting report focuses on the analysis of the interpreted version guided by Relevance Theory. This report has five chapters.Chapter One introduces the interpreting task from three aspects—meaning, background and task assumption. In Chapter Two,the author reviews the pre-task preparation, performance and makes a detailed reflection.Chapter Three is a close study on Relevance Theory and its appliance in interpreting.Chapter Four first analyzes the difficulties encountered-cultural loaded expressions, tediously long descriptive sentence and narration and excessively-omitted sentence, and then revises the interpreting under the guidance of Relevance Theory and finally concludes its coping strategies for interpreting cultural lecture.Chapter Five is a conclusion with deepened reflection. This simulated consecutive interpreting report aims at assisting interpreting learners particularly in dealing with cultural lectures and promoting the influence of Chinese culture.
