Simultaneous interpretation(SI)as a way of translation,is highly professional.Usually,it's used for international conference,so the quality requirements for interpreters are relatively high. Not many people can be qualified for this job.In daily practice, common strategies for simultaneous interpretation are linearity, anticipation, omissions, waiting and so on.Compared with the long history of translation studies, the academic research of SI is relatively limited. This is mainly because the simultaneous interpretation itself has its specialty, therefore, following other forms of translation rules is difficult. In view of the special nature of SI itself, researchers should find out a theory research as a guide. Therefore, this thesis studies anticipation in Simultaneous interpretation from the perspective of Relevance Theory.Language communication is a process of ostensive-inferential communication. The hearer uses the least effort to understand the speaker's intention in order to achieve communicative purpose.Simultaneous interpretation,as a form of communication can be guided by Relevance Theory which focuses on "optimal relevance",which means spending minimal mental efforts to gain the maximum contextual effects. This paper discusses two questions: First, different types of anticipation in E-C SI;Second, how to achieve effective anticipation according to Relevance Theory.A good interpreter should be completely proficient in source language and target language.Besides,it is necessary for a qualified interpreter to master different skills of anticipation and make well preparations before the interpretation, and also handle anticipation failures with care. The author tries to summarize different types of anticipation and bring forward some common methods, and hopes that this thesis can shed some enlightenment on other counterparts.
