With the global economic integration,English learning becomes more important in China.English learning is a way of acquiring knowledge,communicating with others and obtaining information,and also plays an important part.The mark of English in the college entrance exam is 150,and the marks of reading comprehension can make up 40 degrees.The style of English reading varies from narration,discussion to report.Besides,the percent is becoming larger and larger.This is a new challenge for English reading teaching.The reform of the new curriculum and standards require a new level of English reading ability.Therefore,how to improve senior high school students' reading ability effectively is of great importance.In this paper,the author sets Yongji Experimental High School as an example,using questionnaires and interview survey to investigate the situation of English reading strategies of the students.The number of the students is 150,the 150 students are from 3 classes.Males and females in each class are equal.The participants in this paper are 9 students who are from Grade 3 and 3 English teachers who are also from Grade 3.And all of them are from Yongji Experimental High School.The results show that: 1)Most of the students don't make sense of what English reading strategies are.2)Although some of the students understand some English reading strategies,they can not use them flexibly while reading.So the teachers should do the following: 1)reform the teaching patterns of English reading.2)develop the English reading strategies of the students from metacognitive and cognitive angle.This thesis consists of six sections.Section one is the introduction,which directly begins with an overview of the background,objective and significance of the research of the English reading strategies in senior high school.Section two is the literature review.This chapter describes the definition and classification of the English reading strategies and elaborates the relevant theoretical basis.Researches by scholars at home and abroad are also analyzed and theoretical supports are provided too.Section three is the investigation and study of English reading strategies of Yongji experimental high school.This chapter mainly includes research questions,research objectives,research tools,the data collection of research results,and the analysis and discussion of the research results.Section four puts forward some suggestions for improving senior high school students' English reading strategies based on the research results.Section five is the conclusion.Main findings of the research are given,and some limitations of the research are pointed out too.Meanwhile,some proposals and future researches are put forward.
