| As an understanding skill,reading is an extremely important input means in the learning environment without an English environment.It plays an important role in the learning of the four English skills of listening,speaking,reading,and writing.The English curriculum standard for senior high schools(2020 Revision)puts forward that students’ abilities of autonomous learning,cooperative learning,and inquiry learning should be paid attention to in teaching.Therefore,many scholars and teachers have actively explored the application of these in teaching to find a suitable method for English reading teaching.DRTA(Directed Reading-Thinking Activity)teaching mode is a way of inquiry learning that involves observing,thinking,predicting,questioning,and verifying in order to maximize students’ autonomy with little teacher guidance.Therefore,the researchers apply the DRTA mode to senior high school English Reading Teaching to explore its effectiveness in improving students’ reading performance and reading interest.Based on schema theory and humanism,this study takes 86 students from two classes of Senior One in a senior high school in Urumqi as the research object.Through questionnaires,pre and post-reading comprehension tests,and interviews,this study aims to answer the following two questions:(1)What is the attitude,interest,habit in general of senior high students in English reading as well as views towards English reading teaching? Are there any differences before and after the experiment?(2)What impact does DRTA have on English reading learning proficiency? This study draws the following conclusions: first,affective factors play an important role in senior high school English teaching.Most students are aware of the key position of reading in English learning.They all believe that reading is an important way to improve their English level.They can adapt to the current reading teaching mode,but lack interest.Second,the application of DRTA teaching mode greatly improves the English reading performance of students in Experimental Class,especially in the question types of reasoning judgment and word meaning guessing.Third,DRTA teaching mode plays an active role in promoting the transformation of senior high school students’ reading attitude,the use of reading strategies,and the improvement of thinking quality,and helps students cultivate good reading habits.The Enlightenment of this study on English Reading Teaching in senior high school is as follows: first,to achieve good teaching effect of DRTA teaching mode,teachers should make preparations and guidance before class.Let students get familiar with this teaching mode as soon as possible and enter the state.Second,teachers should not only play a variety of roles in teaching but also reduce teachers’ lecture time and give students more time to read,exercise and develop their thinking quality.Third,teachers should consider the influence of reading affection to make students interested in reading class. |
