| With the acceleration of economic globalization, distribution agreement has been playing an important role in promoting transnational economic cooperation and safeguarding the interests of both parties, which naturally highlights the importance of distribution agreement translation. When more and more multinational investments flow to the Chinese market, there is also an increasing demand for English-Chinese translation of distribution agreements and that actually justifies the necessity of research on related translation strategies and techniques. On the basis of the E-C translation of an excerpt of about 10000 words from an exclusive distribution agreement translated by the author, this report is designed to discuss the problems and difficulties encountered during the translation process and the solutions that have been adopted so as to produce an accurate and readable target text.First of all,the report introduces the background and significance of the translation project, followed by the discussion of Eugene A.Nida’s functional equivalence theory. Then, translation difficulties are dissected from the perspective of syntax, including passive sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences and commonly-used format. This has paved the way for the analysis of the translation techniques from the point of functional equivalence theory, such as conversion, division, restructuring and idiomatic translation,so that the completed translation could provide the readers with a natural target text. Finally, this report concludes with personal reflections upon the translation project, points out the limitations and offers useful suggestions for future translation practice. |
