With the deep development of globalization, exchanges between China and Thailand have grown increasingly more common.Every year large numbers of Chinese and Thai people go abroad to travel and study, naturally experience local culture and learn about local society.Along with this deepening of interaction, requirements for language mastery have continuously risen.Linguistic culture accompanies the rise and fall of a nation, bearing witness to its development history. In order to completely understand a country, one must first understand said country’s language. If one wants to properly study a language,a through study of its slang is essential.Slang is the unofficial, colloquial language of the people. Not only is slang the everyday “easy to understand” language of the common people, but it also possesses local characteristics.Only through an in-depth study of slang can one truly understand a group of people and their cultural background.Although Sino-Thai exchanges have deepened, but research on Chinese and Thai slang is still incomplete.Chinese slang has followed China’s thousands of years of development and formed a certain scale, but the scale of Thai slang is still in its embryonic stages. The scope of this paper’s analysis runs the gamut from the origins of Chinese and Thai slang and their respective structural composition to their academic and real life applications(including but not limited to religious culture, ethnic customs, digital culture, fondness for animals and so on).In doing so,this paper strives to conduct a comprehensive comparison of Chinese and Thai slang that highlights important similarities and differences between the two languages.Chinese and Thai slang originates from the daily lives of the people, which is manifested in the shared characteristics of each language’s development process.Additionally, the structural composition of Chinese and Thai slang is multifaceted, and reflects a large degree of freedom. The Chinese and Thai slang originates from the folk and originated from the life.It also embodies the common characteristics of the language in the process of development, and the form of the Chinese and Thai slang presents diversity and has a great degree of freedom. The difference is that Chinese slang is more closed and smaller because of its national conditions and regional reasons, while the production of Thai slang is more flexible and more extensive. In structure, the form of Thai slang is more complex than Chinese slang. At present,no one has made a comparative study of Chinese and Thai slang in Thailand. The related literature still remains blank.Through a series of comparative studies,I hope that Thais can further understand Chinese slang and let Chinese people know more about Thai slang and promote the language learning of the two countries.Learning and research also deepened people’s understanding of cultural background.
